International Festival of Peace Poetry

The International Festival of Peace Poetry (Persian: جشنواره بین المللی شعر صلح‎) is an international festival held biannually in Iran. The first Peace Poetry Festival was held in Tehran on May 16, 2007, with poets from sixteen different countries participating, and the second Festival was held on May 16, 2009.

Peace Poetry Festival is the brainchild of Ms Rira Abbasi, Iranian author and poet. The organization of the Festival is supported solely by the donations of individuals and sponsorships of non-governmental organizations and relies on no state subsidy. The charter of the festival states that: "Poetry for peace is affiliated to humanity, regardless of race, religion, sex and geography."

Famous quotes containing the words festival, peace and/or poetry:

The surest guide to the correctness of the path that women take is joy in the struggle. Revolution is the festival of the oppressed.
    Germaine Greer (b. 1939)

When the peace is a trade route, figures
For the budget, reduction of population,
    Life grown sullen and immense
    Lusts after immunity to pain.
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

Good poetry could not have been otherwise written than it is. The first time you hear it, it sounds rather as if copied out of some invisible tablet in the Eternal mind than as if arbitrarily composed by the poet.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
