Technovation

Technovation is an annual science and technology festival of Interdisciplinary school of scientific computing, University of Pune. Technovation consists of several competitions and seminars by renowned experts. Technovation provides a platform for a confluence of students, academia and the industry.

In 2012, an inspiring talk by Dr. Navin Kabra, Co-founder & CTO at Reliscore.com & Founder at PuneTech.com on the “Technology Trends that Students Need to be Aware of” marked the beginning of the Technovation event. IBM had arranged a Technical Seminar event in which shortlisted papers were judged by eminent judges from IBM. The next day an interview with the Tech Tycoons – Dr. Bhooshan Kelkar (IBM), Mr. Ashish Kelkar ( Aashai Technologies), Mr. Amit Bagaitkar (Symphony Services) and Dr. Navin Kabra (Reliscore) gave the students an opportunity to clear their issues about careers, jobs and current trends in the industry. The festival ended with the Quiz finale organized by the Boat club, Pune. The event was sponsored by IBM, Persistent Systems, Aashai Technologies, Reliscore.com, SoftCorner and Unisoft.

Technovation’11 was formally inaugurated by Dr. Bhooshan Kelkar, Country Manager, IBM India University Relations. He then addressed the students on “Importance of Innovation : Patent, Publish or Perish” that was appreciated by one and all present. Following it was a Panel Discussion “Is my job sufficient for my career?” chaired by Dr. Bhalchandra Gore(Assistant Professor, ISSC). Eminent industry leaders including Dr. Bhooshan Kelkar (IBM), Dr. Shirish Karande (TCS), Dr. Abhijat Vichare (CRL) and Mr. Sachin Gadgil (Symphony Services) enlightened the students with their thoughts

and experiences. An informative seminar was given by Dr Sachin Lodha, Senior Scientist, Tata Consultancy Services, directing the attention of the audience to the challenges and opportunities faced in Data Privacy. Our event sponsors were IBM, TCS, 3dPLM, Prentice Hall India, 93.5 Radio FM, Power Vision and Unisoft. In 2010, Technovation began with the felicitation program of Dr Shridhar Gadre, who superannuated from the University. There were seminars on Cloud Computing by Kalpak Shah and Multitasking by V.Ganesh (Australian National University). The festival climax was a panel discussion on the theme “Process Vs Product” chaired by Mr. Alkutkar (Synetario) . Eminent Industry leaders including Shridhar Shukla (GS LAB), Pankaj Saxena (IBM), Monish Darda (BMC software), Chandrashekar Karmarkar (Kale Consultancy), Prasad Shetye (Patni), and Ajay Phatak (Core objects) participated in the discussion. Student‟s event was sponsored by NVidia, MSI and Aashai Technologies. Quiz was conducted by RJ Ashwin of Red FM who were publicity partners.

In 2009, the festival‟s highlight was the seminars and speeches given by eminent speakers from Industry, academics and other institutions. There was an excellent seminar given by Mr Praveen Kulange, Senior Projects Manager-Harbinger Systems. He addressed the students about the potential of Web2.0. Dr C Mohan, IBM Fellow and IBM Chief Scientist directed the attention of the audience to Evolution of Architecture and Design of Database Management Systems. Following it was a seminar by Mr Sanjay, NVidia who enlightened students on CUDA Technology. There was an interview session with Dr Vikas Joshi, Founder, Harbinger Systems and Dr C. Mohan, IBM, to address issues of the students regarding career, jobs, etc. The event was sponsored by leading IT firms like Cognizant, Harbinger, Aashai Technologies, Persistent Systems, NVIDIA, 93.5S FM and Unisoft.

In 2008, the students had the opportunity to listen to experts like Dr. Rajendra Lagu, from Computational Research Laboratories, about the applications of Supercomputing and Vijay Sukthankar (IBM) enraptured the audience in his seminar on forthcoming features of Linux. To address the issues faced by students aiming for an IT career, there was a panel discussion on “Fundamentals versus Technology”. The experts on the panel were Dr. Sunderarajan (CDAC), V. Sukthankar (IBM), Ajay Phatak (founder CEO of Jopasana.) and Madhav Kulkarni (Cognizant), Dr. Ajay Nandgaonkar( Re systems). The event was sponsored by leading IT firms like Cognizant, Zenwave, Persistent Systems, Aashai Technologies, Aztecsoft, GS-Lab, Harbinger and Unisoft.
