Indigenous Community Television

Indigenous Community Television, or ICTV, is a satellite television service that broadcasts television programs produced by, and for, indigenous people in remote communities around Australia.

Programs are contributed regularly by Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Media, Pilbara and Kimberley Aboriginal Media, Warlpiri Media and Ngaanyatjarra Media. From 2002 to 2007 these were uplinked by Imparja Television on their Optus C1 satellite channel 31, while from 2009 onwards they have been uplinked by Westlink. The service has been rebroadcast by terrestrial transmitters in many remote communities.

Famous quotes containing the words indigenous, community and/or television:

What is a country without rabbits and partridges? They are among the most simple and indigenous animal products; ancient and venerable families known to antiquity as to modern times; of the very hue and substance of Nature, nearest allied to leaves and to the ground,—and to one another; it is either winged or it is legged. It is hardly as if you had seen a wild creature when a rabbit or a partridge bursts away, only a natural one, as much to be expected as rustling leaves.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

... no community where more than one-half of the adults are disfranchised and otherwise incapacitated by law and custom, can be free from great vices. Purity is inconsistent with slavery.
    Tennessee Claflin (1846–1923)

Television is an excellent system when one has nothing to lose, as is the case with a nomadic and rootless country like the United States, but in Europe the affect of television is that of a bulldozer which reduces culture to the lowest possible denominator.
    Marc Fumaroli (b. 1932)
