Indian Lake is a lake in Marion County in central Indiana in the United States. It is approximately 5 mi (8 km) northeast of Indianapolis. It was created in 1929 by damming Indian Creek, a tributary to Fall Creek.
Prior to the creation of Geist Reservoir in 1943, Indian Lake was the largest body of water in central Indiana. Morse Reservoir was created in 1956 and Eagle Creek in 1967.
Famous quotes containing the words indian and/or lake:
“According to my observation, a batteau, properly manned, shoots rapids as a matter of course, which a single Indian with a canoe carries round.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Such were the first rude beginnings of a town. They spoke of the practicability of a winter road to the Moosehead Carry, which would not cost much, and would connect them with steam and staging and all the busy world. I almost doubted if the lake would be there, the self-same lake, preserve its form and identity, when the shores should be cleared and settled; as if these lakes and streams which explorers report never awaited the advent of the citizen.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
