India Women's National Field Hockey Team

The Indian women's national field hockey team is the national women's team representing field hockey in India. Captain Suraj Lata Devi led the team to the Gold for three consecutive years: during the 2002 Commonwealth Games (the event which inspired the 2007 Bollywood hit film, Chak De India), the 2003 Afro-Asian Games, and the 2004 Hockey Asia Cup. Team members were referred to as the "assi (Jasjeet) jaisi koi nahi" or the "golden girls of hockey," after the 2004 win.

Famous quotes containing the words india, women, national, field and/or team:

India is an abstraction.... India is no more a political personality than Europe. India is a geographical term. It is no more a united nation than the Equator.
    Winston Churchill (1874–1965)

Recently we’ve been hearing a lot about women “having it all.” Myself, I think that is not really an accurate description of female lives today. It seems to me that what we have been up to is DOING it all.
    Sylvia Hewlett (20th century)

I submit all my plays to the National Theatre for rejection. To assure myself I am seeing clearly.
    Howard Barker (b. 1946)

Frankly, I’d like to see the government get out of war altogether and leave the whole field to private industry.
    Joseph Heller (b. 1923)

I doubt if men ever made a trade of heroism. In the days of Achilles, even, they delighted in big barns, and perchance in pressed hay, and he who possessed the most valuable team was the best fellow.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
