Incisional Hernia - Etiology

Etiology

Incisional hernia usually caused by weakness of the surgical wounds which may be caused by:

  • Haematoma
  • Seroma
  • infection

all of which results in decreased wound healing, or may be caused by increased intra abdominal pressure which may be caused by:

  • chronic cough like COPD
  • constipations
  • urinary obstruction, like BPH
  • pregnancy
  • Ascites

It could also be due to the poor technique of the surgeon.
