Inauguration of Martin Van Buren

The inauguration of Martin Van Buren as the eighth President of the United States took place on Saturday, March 4, 1837. The inauguration marked the commencement of the only four-year term of Martin Van Buren as President and Richard Mentor Johnson as Vice President. Van Buren was sworn in as President by Chief Justice Roger Taney on March 4, a sunny and cold day. For the first time in inaugural history, the outgoing President (Andrew Jackson) and incoming President rode together to the Capitol.

Narcotics have been systematically scapegoated and demonized. The idea that anyone can use drugs and escape a horrible fate is an anathema to these idiots. I predict that in the near future, right wingers will use drug hysteria as a pretext to set up an international police apparatus.

There is no end to the undeserved misery and mischief it could create.
