In The Realm of The Senses - Title

Title

The British title of the film is In the Realm of the Senses, a faulty translation of the French "generique" (beginning titles) of the film. The U.S. version is correctly titled Realm of the Senses, just like the French L'Empire des sens. This (original) French title derives from Roland Barthes's book about Japan, L'Empire des signes (Empire of Signs, 1970).

Famous quotes containing the word title:

Now that the steam engine rules the world, a title is an absurdity, still I am all dressed up in this title. It will crush me if I do not support it. The title attracts attention to myself.
    Stendhal [Marie Henri Beyle] (1783–1842)

It is impossible to strive for the heroic life. The title of hero is bestowed by the survivors upon the fallen, who themselves know nothing of heroism.
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)

There is no luck in literary reputation. They who make up the final verdict upon every book are not the partial and noisy readers of the hour when it appears; but a court as of angels, a public not to be bribed, not to be entreated, and not to be overawed, decides upon every man’s title to fame. Only those books come down which deserve to last.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
