Ilija is a Macedonian national and Orthodox holiday.Ilinden has special significance for the history of the Macedonian people because on Aug. 2 started Ilinden rebellion in 1903 against the Ottoman empire and in 1944 was held the first Assembly of the ASNOM (Anti-Fascist Assembly for the People's Liberation of Macedonia)
