Life and Education
Ida Altman was born in Washington, D.C. She received her B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; a master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin; and her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. After her formal education she lived in New Orleans where she was professor of history and University Research Professor at the University of New Orleans and chair of the history department until shortly after Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Altman joined the faculty of the University of Florida in August 2006 and became chair of the history department in August 2010.
