IBM Somers Office Complex - History

History

The complex was originally conceived in 1983 following the successful approval of the PepsiCo corporate campus nearby, after an invitation from the supervisor of Somers, Wayne Van Tassell to visit the town. Constructed between 1984 and 1989, the $55 million complex facilitated the consolidation of 3,000 employees previously located in various facilities in the surrounding area. Despite initial complaints of excessive water usage and light pollution, the complex has remained a major business location in the Somers area.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

No one can understand Paris and its history who does not understand that its fierceness is the balance and justification of its frivolity. It is called a city of pleasure; but it may also very specially be called a city of pain. The crown of roses is also a crown of thorns. Its people are too prone to hurt others, but quite ready also to hurt themselves. They are martyrs for religion, they are martyrs for irreligion; they are even martyrs for immorality.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)

No cause is left but the most ancient of all, the one, in fact, that from the beginning of our history has determined the very existence of politics, the cause of freedom versus tyranny.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)

It is the true office of history to represent the events themselves, together with the counsels, and to leave the observations and conclusions thereupon to the liberty and faculty of every man’s judgement.
    Francis Bacon (1561–1626)
