Hydroelectricity In Canada

Canada is the world's third largest producer of hydroelectricity in the world (after China and Brazil), and one of few countries to generate the majority of its electricity from hydroelectricity (59% in 2006). In 2011, Canada consumed the equivalent of 85.2 megatonnes of oil of hydroelectricity, 10.8% of all the hydroelectricity generated in the world. Some provinces and territories, such as British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and Yukon, produce over 90% of their electricity in this manner.

Famous quotes containing the word canada:

What makes the United States government, on the whole, more tolerable—I mean for us lucky white men—is the fact that there is so much less of government with us.... But in Canada you are reminded of the government every day. It parades itself before you. It is not content to be the servant, but will be the master; and every day it goes out to the Plains of Abraham or to the Champs de Mars and exhibits itself and toots.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
