Hunter's Moon - Traditional Association With Feasting

Traditional Association With Feasting

In the northern hemisphere, the Hunter's Moon appears in October or November, usually in October. Traditionally, it was a feast day in parts of western Europe and among some Native American tribes, called simply the Feast of the Hunter's Moon, though the celebration had largely died out by the 18th century. There is a large historical reenactment by that name (Feast of the Hunters' Moon) in Lafayette, Indiana in late September or early October each year.

Famous quotes containing the words traditional, association and/or feasting:

In abnormal times like our own, when institutions are changing rapidly in several directions at once and the traditional framework of society has broken down, it becomes more and more difficult to measure any type of behavior against any other.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

In this great association we know no North, no South, no East, no West. This has been our pride for all these years. We have no political party. We never have inquired what anybody’s religion is. All we ever have asked is simply, “Do you believe in perfect equality for women?” This is the one article in our creed.
    Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906)

Tasting of the sweet damp woods and of the rain one inch above the meadow:

It was like feasting upon air.
    William Jay Smith (b. 1918)
