Fountains
A larger fountain occupied the west center court and a much larger, multi-tiered fountain took up the main center court with an orange glass elevator. This fountain was loud enough to be heard throughout the east wing of the mall, and its water jets shot above the second floor balcony. It was also the sight of various pranks, including "fountain jumping", "soaping", urinating and other rituals. It was a very popular wishing well, but unfortunately was rumored to be a portal for demonic spirits from other dimensions when it was illuminated at night. Because of the special threat the fountain posed, spells were often cast to ward off evil entities lurking beneath the water. Children's wishing coins would be fished out to be used later at the arcade. During holidays, the fountain would be filled in to accommodate the Christmas display for Santa.

Famous quotes containing the word fountains:
“Im hurt, hurt and humiliated beyond endurance, seeing the wheat ripening, the fountains never ceasing to give water, the sheep bearing hundreds of lambs, the she-dogs, until it seems the whole country rises to show me its tender sleeping young while I feel two hammer-blows here instead of the mouth of my child.”
—Federico García Lorca (18981936)
“No more be grieved at that which thou hast done,
Roses have thorns, and silver fountains mud,
Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun,
And loathsome canker lives in sweetest bud.
All men make faults, and even I in this,
Authorizing thy trespass with compare,
My self corrupting salving thy amiss,
Excusing thy sins more than thy sins are:”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“The fountains of my hidden life
Are through thy friendship fair.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
