Humberto Quintero - Career

Career

One of eight San Diego catchers behind the plate in 2003–04, Baseball America ranked Quintero number 19 in the Padres farm system. He made two trips to the Padres in 2004, starting 19 games. He went 9-for-18 in his first five games after his first recall from Triple-A Portland Beavers, on June 21.

He was considered the incumbent starting catcher for the 2009 season due to his experience over J.R. Towles and Lou Palmisano but was used as a backup catcher after the team came to terms with Ivan Rodriguez on March 16, 2009.

In the 2010 season, Quintero was moved into the starting role behind the plate and was backed up by Kevin Cash.

On May 28, 2011, Quintero was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a high right ankle sprain. Robinson Cancel was called up to take his spot followed by Carlos Corporan just a few days later.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

The 19-year-old Diana ... decided to make her career that of wife. Today that can be a very, very iffy line of work.... And what sometimes happens to the women who pursue it is the best argument imaginable for teaching girls that they should always be able to take care of themselves.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)

I seemed intent on making it as difficult for myself as possible to pursue my “male” career goal. I not only procrastinated endlessly, submitting my medical school application at the very last minute, but continued to crave a conventional female role even as I moved ahead with my “male” pursuits.
    Margaret S. Mahler (1897–1985)
