Human Rights Concerns
After reviewing Tanzania’s periodic reports and concluded observations issued by the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC), the principal breaches in the country’s system of human rights are many. The main concern for the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) was the increasing numbers in terms of domestic violence as well as the mutilation of female genitalia. The United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) were extremely concerned with the absence of actions in order to target these areas of violation towards women. The committee was also able to conclude there was an under-resourcing of the human rights commission, the harsh treatment towards Tanzanian?prisoners by law enforcement officials, and not being able to “protect the rights of minorities and indigenous peoples, including in relation to the negative impact of projects such as game parks on the traditional way of life of these communities.” In response to concerns expressed in the system of human rights, the United Nations Tanzania Country Team acted through sponsoring anti-discrimination and equality, as well as “the shaping of a strong and coordinated national human rights machinery”. Furthermore, on top of incorporating such objectives into its growth support activities, the United Nations encourages the reporting and updating on endorsements from the United Nations Human Rights Treaty and Human Rights Committee.
