HFEA Coverage
The act covers several areas:
- Any and all fertility treatment of humans involving the use of donated genetic material (eggs, sperm or embryos).
- The storage of human eggs, sperm and embryos.
- Research on early human embryos.
- The creation of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, or HFEA, which regulates assisted reproduction in the UK.
Within the act an embryo is defined as a live human embryo where fertilisation is complete, complete is defined as the appearance of a two cell zygote.
