Famous quotes containing the words shore, drive and/or avenue:
“The shore is composed of a belt of smooth rounded white stones like paving-stones, excepting one or two short sand beaches, and is so steep that in many places a single leap will carry you into water over your head; and were it not for its remarkable transparency, that would be the last to be seen of its bottom till it rose on the opposite side. Some think it is bottomless.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“...I dont have an inner drive to do as well as anybody else ... I have a great pleasure in writing and part of that is political and part of that is Im surprised that Ive done as well as I have. I really am just surprised.”
—Grace Paley (b. 1922)
“Along the avenue of cypresses,
All in their scarlet cloaks and surplices
Of linen, go the chanting choristers,
The priests in gold and black, the villagers. . . .”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
