Hull & District Youth League - History

History

The Hull and District Youth Rugby League Association was established in October 1975 and was the result of the failure to get rugby league played in the senior high schools. Rugby league was still played in the junior schools and the Hull & District Youth Rugby League was set up to keep those children playing.

At first it was very much a youth club league, giving access to facilities and finances. During the 1976 / 77 season things started to take off, and many more clubs were formed, covering all parts of Kingston-upon-Hull.

In 2002, the association began moving the very youngest age groups to play in the summer months and over the next three years moved all of its under-8s through to and including under-11s teams to competitions running from March to September, this coincided with an increase in playing numbers of over 250%.
