School Location and Environment
Huafan University is located at the top of a small mountain in Shiding District, a rural area in the jurisdiction of New Taipei City (formerly Taipei County), northern Taiwan. Situated atop Dalun Peak, with an elevation of 550 meters, it is reportedly "the highest" university in Tawian (i.e., in terms of elevation). There are scattered Sanyou plum, bamboo and pine trees on the surrounding hills.
The road linking the campus to the city is toruous: to walk from the town of Shiding would be very time-consuming and athletic; wending traffic and the steep incline of the roads would make bicycle transportation difficult (if not dangerous). The vast majority of students reach the campus by taking "Bus 666" daily; there is, in fact, more than one bus route under the number "666", but this does link the campus to downtown Taipei (in a journey of more than one hour, each way, even in good weather).
The campus is self-sufficient in many respects, and has a vegetarian restaurant, in addition to various small shops, so that students and staff do not have to commute for minor needs.

Famous quotes containing the words school and/or environment:
“Loosed betwixt eye and lid, the swimming beams
Of memory, blind school of cuttlefish,
Rise to the air, plunge to the cold streams....”
—Allen Tate (18991979)
“We learn through experience and experiencing, and no one teaches anyone anything. This is as true for the infant moving from kicking to crawling to walking as it is for the scientist with his equations. If the environment permits it, anyone can learn whatever he chooses to learn; and if the individual permits it, the environment will teach him everything it has to teach.”
—Viola Spolin (b. 1911)
