Famous quotes containing the words house, big, brother, talk and/or show:

You made us in the House of Pain. You made us things. Not men, not beasts, part-man, part-beast: things.
Waldemar Young, U.S. screenwriter. Erle C. Kenton. Sayer of the Law (Bela Lugosi)

    We have no prairies
To slice a big sun at evening—
    Everywhere the eye concedes to
    Encroaching horizon,
Is wooed into the cyclops’ eye
    Of a tarn.
    Seamus Heaney (b. 1939)

And Space with gaunt grey eyes and her brother Time
    Wheeling and whispering come,
    James Elroy Flecker (1884–1919)

    Romeo. Peace, peace, Mercutio, peace!
    Thou talk’st of nothing.
Mercutio. True, I talk of dreams,
Which are the children of an idle brain,
Begot of nothing but vain fantasy,
Which is as thin of substance as the air,
And more inconstant than the wind.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

I allude to these facts to show that, so far from the Supper being a tradition in which men are fully agreed, there has always been the widest room for difference of opinion upon this particular. Having recently given particular attention to this subject, I was led to the conclusion that Jesus did not intend to establish an institution for perpetual observance when he ate the Passover with his disciples; and further, to the opinion that it is not expedient to celebrate it as we do.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
