Hotchkiss Et Cie - Arms

Arms

An example of the company's output was the Hotchkiss revolving cannon (see picture from a privately circulated book dated 1874 by Alfred Koerner, later chairman of the company). The cannon had five barrels each able to fire 43 shells a minute a distance of one mile; it was made in four sizes from 37 mm to 57 mm, the largest intended for naval use. At the turn-of-the-twentieth-century, the company introduced the gas-actuated Hotchkiss machine gun, a sturdy and reliable weapon which was widely used during World War I and thereafter by the French Army.

Famous quotes containing the word arms:

    O! let me clip ye
In arms as sound as when I wooed, in heart
As merry as when our nuptial day was done
    And tapers burnt to bedward!
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

A fortified town is like a man cased in the heavy armor of antiquity, with a horse-load of broadswords and small arms slung to him, endeavoring to go about his business.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Time is like a fashionable host,
That slightly shakes his parting guest by the hand,
And with his arms outstretched, as he would fly,
Grasps in the comer: the welcome ever smiles,
    And farewell goes out sighing.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
