On October 22, 2007, music website Punknews.org reported that a reunion of the band is currently in the works.

Chuck Ragan has also stated that he looks forward to playing with Hot Water Music again sometime in the future.

The November issue of Alternative Press included an interview with bassist Jason Black in which he said that they are planning to reunite, but he "hates saying it out loud because we haven't confirmed a show yet." He thinks that "at this point...we'll be doing about six to eight shows... we're shooting for January or February."

On November 5, 2008, Hot Water Music's official page, as well as their MySpace page, formally announced three shows in late January and early February. The announcement also stated that the official website will continue to be updated with news, as well as a collaborative discography of all their releases.

The band kicked off their reunion tour with a "secret show" at Common Grounds in their hometown of Gainesville, Florida on January 18, 2008 to be followed by shows in Orlando, Florida, Sayreville, New Jersey and two sold out shows in Chicago, Illinois.

They headlined the Eastpak Core Stage at Groezrock festival in Meerhout, Belgium on 9 May 2008, as well as playing a couple of dates in Germany around the same time. The band is continuing to play sporadically in the US.

Performances in 2009 included a 2009 New Year's Eve show in Atlanta at the Masquerade, a tour with the legendary Chicago punks Naked Raygun followed by shows in Germany for November

In 2010, the band performed at the Punk RockBowling Festival 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada alongside NOFX, Against Me! and Fucked Up.

They also toured Australia with The Bouncing Souls and Dave Hause in December 2010, releasing a split seven-inch to commemorate the tour.

On June 15, 2009, it was announced that drummer George Rebelo had joined Against Me!. Dave Raun from Lagwagon was filling in for him, until Rebelo announced that he wanted to join Hot Water music again for touring and recording the follow up to 'The New What Next'.

Jason Black is currently playing bass for New Jersey oufit Senses Fail. alongside Matt Smith of Strike Anywhere

The band is currently working on a new album with Rise records, and have announced an upcoming, self-produced 7", called 'The Fire, The Steel, The Tread/Up To Nothing'

On January 23, 2012 the band announced via their official Twitter page that they had set up camp at The Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, Colorado to record their new full-length album with Bill Stevenson producing. On February 8, 2012 it was announced that the album was in the mixing process. On February 12, 2012, the band announced via Facebook that their album was finished and waiting to be released. On February 29, 2012, it was announced that the new album will be titled Exister and will be released on May 15. A track listing of 13 tracks was also released.
