Horsham F.C. - Ground

Ground

The club have recently sold their ground at Queen Street, which had been their home since 1904, to property developers. A two season groundshare with Worthing, was terminated after one season and the club is currently sharing with Horsham YMCA at Gorings Mead. The club hoped to return to Horsham and build a new ground in Holbrook, North Horsham, but despite the club having bought the site, planning permission was refused at a council meeting held on 1 July 2008. The club withdrew their appeal against the decision on 15 April 2009, and turned their focus instead to building a new ground at the "Hop Oast" area to the south of Horsham. The area is expected to be reclassified from a strategic gap between the town of Horsham and the village of Southwater to a 'strategic recreational area', which would make planning permission for the ground more likely.

Famous quotes containing the word ground:

One need not be a great beau, a seductive catch, to do it effectively. Any man is better than none. To shrink from giving so much happiness at such small expense, to evade the business on the ground that it has hazards—this is the act of a puling and tacky fellow.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

Rational free spirits are the light brigade who go on ahead and reconnoitre the ground which the heavy brigade of the orthodox will eventually occupy.
    —G.C. (Georg Christoph)

Any historian of the literature of the modern age will take virtually for granted the adversary intention, the actually subversive intention, that characterizes modern writing—he will perceive its clear purpose of detaching the reader from the habits of thought and feeling that the larger culture imposes, of giving him a ground and a vantage point from which to judge and condemn, and perhaps revise, the culture that produces him.
    Lionel Trilling (1905–1975)
