History
The parish lay within the Anglo-Saxon administrative division of Tandridge hundred . The earliest reference to Horne by name was in the 12th Century. Horne did not become a parish in its own right until 1705, when the southern part of Bletchingley parish became the parish of Horne. In 1953 parish boundaries were changed with the southern part of Horne becoming the new Parish of Felbridge, whilst parts of Godstone and Tandridge were added.

“Throughout the history of commercial life nobody has ever quite liked the commission man. His function is too vague, his presence always seems one too many, his profit looks too easy, and even when you admit that he has a necessary function, you feel that this function is, as it were, a personification of something that in an ethical society would not need to exist. If people could deal with one another honestly, they would not need agents.”
—Raymond Chandler (18881959)
