Holy Cross Catholic Academy

Holy Cross Catholic Academy High School (or Holy Cross) is a Catholic high school. It was first established in September 1986 to serve western Woodbridge, a community in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. The school has offered instruction to grades seven through nine when it first opened and added a new grade each successive year. The school now serves grades nine through twelve (ages 14 – 18). In 1990, the first group of students graduated from Holy Cross Catholic High School. While the present building was under construction, the school operated out of what is now San Marco Elementary School, located nearby its present location. Staff and students began using the existing facilities in September 1989. His Grace Arch Bishop blessed the building on May 2, 1990.

The school's tenth anniversary was inaugurated with the planting of a tree at the front of the school, which is marked by way of a metal plaque. Holy Cross Catholic High School was converted to a Catholic Academy in 1998 due to pressures from the Ontario government (Mike Harris' Conservative government) to enhance education in technical development.

Famous quotes containing the words holy, cross, catholic and/or academy:

Insurrection:... insurrection as soon as circumstances allow: insurrection, strenuous, ubiquitous: the insurrection of the masses: the holy war of the oppressed: the republic to make republicans: the people in action to initiate progress. Let the insurrection announce with its awful voice the decrees of God: let it clear and level the ground on which its own immortal structure shall be raised. Let it, like the Nile, flood all the country that it is destined to make fertile.
    Giuseppe Mazzini (1805–1872)

In ancient times—’twas no great loss—
They hung the thief upon the cross:
But now, alas!—I say’t with grief—
They hang the cross upon the thief.
—Anonymous. “On a Nomination to the Legion of Honour,” from Aubrey Stewart’s English Epigrams and Epitaphs (1897)

    Lord, have mercy on us.
    [Kyrie, eleison.]
Missal, The. The Ordinary of the Mass.

Missal is book of prayers and rites used to celebrate the Roman Catholic mass during the year.

I realized early on that the academy and the literary world alike—and I don’t think there really is a distinction between the two—are always dominated by fools, knaves, charlatans and bureaucrats. And that being the case, any human being, male or female, of whatever status, who has a voice of her or his own, is not going to be liked.
    Harold Bloom (b. 1930)
