HIV epidemic evolves in three phases. First phase is low prevalence, when prevalence of the disease is less than 5% in any high risk group of the country. Second phase is concentrated epidemic when proportion of infected people in any high risk group rises more than 5%. Third and last phase of epidemic is generalized epidemic when prevalence of HIV infection rises over 1% among blood donor or pregnant women. Current data suggest that Pakistan has a concentrated epidemic among injection drug users in most cities and among male sex workers in a few cities.

Famous quotes containing the words evolving, phases and/or epidemic:

... friendship ... is essential to intellectuals. You can date the evolving life of a mind, like the age of a tree, by the rings of friendship formed by the expanding central trunk.
    Mary McCarthy (1912–1989)

That man is to be pitied who cannot enjoy social intercourse without eating and drinking. The lowest orders, it is true, cannot imagine a cheerful assembly without the attractions of the table, and this reflection alone should induce all who aim at intellectual culture to endeavor to avoid placing the choicest phases of social life on such a basis.
    Mrs. H. O. Ward (1824–1899)

This movie deals with the epidemic of the way we live now.
What an inane cardplayer. And the age may support it.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
