For more details on this topic, see Principality of Pindus.

During the Axis Occupation of Greece, the Italians tried to set up an autonomous Aromanian state in Northern Greece, the "Principality of Pindus". The leaders of the Principality were Alchiviad Diamandi di Samarina (Prince Alchibiades I, 1941–1942), Regent Nicola Matushi (1942–1943) and Count Gyula Cseszneky, Baron of Milvány (Voivode Julius I, 1943). The principality failed to enlist the support of local Vlachs, and ceased to exist after the Italian capitulation in 1943.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or war:

Raising a daughter is an extremely political act in this culture. Mothers have been placed in a no-win situation with their daughters: if they teach their daughters simply how to get along in a world that has been shaped by men and male desires, then they betray their daughters’ potential But, if they do not, they leave their daughters adrift in a hostile world without survival strategies.
    Elizabeth Debold (20th century)

Our lives laid down in war and peace may not
Be found acceptable in Heaven’s sight.
And that they may be is the only prayer
    Worth praying. May my sacrifice
Be found acceptable in Heaven’s sight.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
