Sport in Prehistory

The history of sports can be traced to that of hunting sports with flint arrowheads proving the practice of archery and javelin. Projectile points dating back 64,000 years were excavated from layers of ancient sediment in Sibudu Cave, South Africa, by a team of scientists from the University of the Witwatersrand. Examinations led by a team from the University of Johannesburg found traces of glue made from a plant-based resin that was used to fasten them on to a wooden shaft. This indicated "cognitively demanding behavior" required to manufacture glue.

Famous quotes containing the words sport in and/or sport:

Sport inevitably creates deadness of feeling. No one could take pleasure in it who was sensitive to suffering; and therefore its pursuit by women is much more to be regretted than its pursuit by men, because women pursue much more violently and recklessly what they pursue at all.
Ouida [Marie Louise De La Ramée] (1839–1908)

Drag racing is a sport of egos, and it’s all male egos.
Shirley “Cha Cha” Muldowney (b. 1940)
