Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway
The first public steam railway in Scotland was the Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway. An Act of Parliament authorising the railway was passed in 1824, and it opened in 1826 as a 4 ft 6 in (1,372 mm) gauge, Scotch gauge, railway.
