(*) Because the NFL did not count tied games in league standings until 1972 (when ties were added to past standings retroactively), these seasons were considered to be "perfect" at the time they finished. Because the rules existing at the times of those championships did not give the teams involved any incentive to avoid tie games in order to maintain a "perfect" season, the accuracy of calling these seasons "imperfect" is still disputed.

Famous quotes containing the words professional football, undefeated, regular, seasons, perfect, professional and/or football:
“Smoking ... is downright dangerous. Most people who smoke will eventually contract a fatal disease and die. But they dont brag about it, do they? Most people who ski, play professional football or drive race cars, will not dieat least not in the actand yet they are the ones with the glamorous images, the expensive equipment and the mythic proportions. Why this should be I cannot say, unless it is simply that the average American does not know a daredevil when he sees one.”
—Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
“Christians would show sense if they dispatched these argumentative Scotists and pigheaded Ockhamists and undefeated Albertists along with the whole regiment of Sophists to fight the Turks and Saracens instead of sending those armies of dull-witted soldiers with whom theyve long been carrying on war with no result.”
—Desiderius Erasmus (c. 14661536)
“This is the frost coming out of the ground; this is Spring. It precedes the green and flowery spring, as mythology precedes regular poetry. I know of nothing more purgative of winter fumes and indigestions. It convinces me that Earth is still in her swaddling-clothes, and stretches forth baby fingers on every side.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“There is no single face in nature, because every eye that looks upon it, sees it from its own angle. So every mans spice-box seasons his own food.”
—Zora Neale Hurston (18911960)
“The most perfect expression of human behavior is a string quartet.”
—Jeffrey Tate (b. 1943)
“As a scientist Im afraid Im a professional skeptic who doubts everything, even the certainties.”
—Karl Brown (18971990)
“...Im not money hungry.... People who are rich want to be richer, but whats the difference? You cant take it with you. The toys get different, thats all. The rich guys buy a football team, the poor guys buy a football. Its all relative.”
—Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
