Southern Dalmatia
In De Administrando Imperio, a work by Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitos from around 950, the southern Dalmatia was ruled by Serbs, in small principalities (royal domains of the Serbian Principality) called Pagania, Zahumlje, Travunia and Duklja, settled by White Serbs.
Pagania was a minor duchy between Cetina and Neretva. The territories of Zahumlje and Travunia spread much further inland than the current borders of Dalmatia. Duklja (the roman Doclea) began south of Dubrovnik and spread down to the Skadar Lake.
Croatian Dalmatia was only to the north of Pagania, in the so-called Littoral Croatia, which had been settled by White Croats.

Famous quotes containing the word southern:
“If the study of his images
Is the study of man, this image of Saturday,
This Italian symbol, this Southern landscape, is like
A waking, as in images we awake,
Within the very object that we seek,
Participants of its being.”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
