Human Anatomy
The hip bone is formed by three bones; ilium, ischium, and pubis. At birth, these three component bones are separated by hyaline cartilage. By the end of puberty the three bones will have grown together. The fusion is usually complete by the age 25. The bones connect at the acetabulum. See Ossification for further details. The two hip bones joins at the pubic symphysis and together with the sacrum and coccyx, the hip bone comprises the skeletal component of the pelvis. The three bones of the hip joint joins each other in a Y-shaped portion of cartilage in the acetabulum.

Famous quotes containing the words human and/or anatomy:
“The car as we know it is on the way out. To a large extent, I deplore its passing, for as a basically old- fashioned machine, it enshrines a basically old-fashioned idea: freedom. In terms of pollution, noise and human life, the price of that freedom may be high, but perhaps the car, by the very muddle and confusion it causes, may be holding back the remorseless spread of the regimented, electronic society.”
—J.G. (James Graham)
“I love to see, when leaves depart,
The clear anatomy arrive,”
—Roy Campbell (19021957)
