Maharaja Ranjit Singh

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji, also called "Sher-e-Punjab" ("The Lion of the Punjab") (1780–1839) was a Sikh emperor and the founder of Sikh Empire. Ranjit Singh crowned himself as the ruler of Punjab and willed the Koh-i-noor back to its original location at Jagannath Temple in Orissa while on his deathbed in 1839. The spire and the dome of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Varanasi are plated with 1000 kg of gold donated by him in 1835.
