Famous quotes containing the words high, school, musical, non-stop, dance and/or party:

    I laugh at the lore and pride of man
    At the sophist schools, and the learned clan;
    For what are they all, in their high conceit,
    When man in the bush with God may meet?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    It is not that the Englishman can’t feel—it is that he is afraid to feel. He has been taught at his public school that feeling is bad form. He must not express great joy or sorrow, or even open his mouth too wide when he talks—his pipe might fall out if he did.
    —E.M. (Edward Morgan)

    There was something refreshingly and wildly musical to my ears in the very name of the white man’s canoe, reminding me of Charlevoix and Canadian Voyageurs. The batteau is a sort of mongrel between the canoe and the boat, a fur-trader’s boat.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Miller is not really a writer but a non-stop talker to whom someone has given a typewriter.
    Gerald Brenan (1894–1987)

    They dance between their arclamps and our skull,
    Impose their shots, showing the nights away....
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

    The women’s liberation movement at this point in history makes the American Communist Party of the 1930s look like a monolith.
    Nora Ephron (b. 1941)
