High-speed Rail In Canada
Canada is the only G8 country that does not have high-speed rail. In the press and popular discussion, there have been two routes frequently proposed as suitable for a high-speed rail corridor:
- Edmonton to Calgary via Red Deer
- Windsor to Quebec City via London, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal
A possible international high-speed rail link between Montreal and Boston or New York City is often discussed by regional leaders, though little progress has been made. On another international line between Vancouver and Seattle, work is in progress to improve the existing Amtrak Cascades service, though it will not reach speeds normally associated with high-speed rail.
On April 10, 2008, a new Canadian National Citizen's Advocacy Group High Speed Rail Canada was formed to promote and educate Canadians on the benefits of high speed rail in Canada. All current and past Canadian high speed rail studies are posted on their website.

Famous quotes containing the words rail and/or canada:
“Old man, its four flights up and for what?
Your room is hardly any bigger than your bed.
Puffing as you climb, you are a brown woodcut
stooped over the thin rail and the wornout tread.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“I fear that I have not got much to say about Canada, not having seen much; what I got by going to Canada was a cold.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
