Court Room Exercises and Moot Courts
To familiarize students with the workings of courts, the university conducts Court Room Exercises and Moot Courts. Court Room Exercises are conducted in every semester. Students are encouraged to participate in Moot Court competitions so that they get the chance to interact won ith other law students from all over the country.
The Moot Court Committee is facilitator of the Moot Court, with eight regular and eight co-opted members. Additionally the committee is guided by the Faculty coordinator and three Faculty advisers.
The MCC notifies the students of upcoming Moot Court Competitions, conducts qualifying rounds, and registers the teams with the organizers.
Each year with the coming of the new batch the MCC runs an orientation program which introducing the moot to the freshers. It consists of demo moots, classes on researching skills, court manners, and introductory mooting vocabulary. Seniors who have previously brought mooting laurels to the University also oblige by sharing a tip or two.
The 2nd Justice Hidayatullah Memorial National Moot Court Competition was organised from 7–9 March 2008. Twenty seven teams from all over the country participated in the competition. The competition was won by the team representing ILS Pune while the team representing NLU Jodhpur was adjudged as the runners-up. The awards for the Best Oralist and the Best Memorial both went to the Team representing GLC Mumbai.
The 3rd Justice Hidayatullah Memorial National Moot Court Competition, 2010 was held from 22 October 2010 to 24 October 2010 at the HNLU campus. The event was organised by the university in association with the Competition Commission of India, the All India Bar Association, Chattisgarh Tourism and was sponsored by the law firms of J Sagar Associates and Khaitan & Co.More than 30 leading law schools from all over the country participated in this event.
