Heriot-Watt University Hockey Club

Heriot-Watt University Hockey Club is one of the 32 clubs that compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues on a Wednesday and in many Scottish National leagues on Saturdays and Sundays. There have been many athletes that have progressed through the ranks to represent their country at the Scottish Universities level and on the national and international stage.

In recent years, the Hockey Club has enjoyed significant success in the BUCS leagues. In the 2010/2011 season the Men's 1st XI won the highest Division in Scottish University Hockey overcoming rivals Edinburgh University who have beaten Heriot-Watt to the top spot in previous years. The club was named Team of the Year at the 2010/2011 Heriot-Watt Sports Union Awards and it currently stands as one of the strongest clubs at the University.

An amalgamation with Inverleith Hockey Club for the 2007-2008 season will see a number of Heriot-Watt students playing for the Edinburgh side at both National and Regional level.

Famous quotes containing the words university and/or club:

It is well known, that the best productions of the best human intellects, are generally regarded by those intellects as mere immature freshman exercises, wholly worthless in themselves, except as initiatives for entering the great University of God after death.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)

I think there ought to be a club in which preachers and journalists could come together and have the sentimentalism of the one matched with the cynicism of the other. That ought to bring them pretty close to the truth.
    Reinhold Niebuhr (1892–1971)
