Henry J. Heinz - Personal Life

Personal Life

Heinz was a devout Methodist. At the beginning of his will he wrote: "I desire to set forth, at the very beginning of this Will, as the most important item in it, a confession of my faith in Jesus Christ as my Savour." When he visited England, his "tourist stops" included the grave of John Bunyan, Isaac Watts, and John Wesley. He visited a chapel that John Wesley founded, where he later wrote, "I felt I was upon holy ground."

Heinz was married to Sarah Sloan Young Heinz in 1869 and had four children:

  • Clarence Heinz
  • Howard Covode Heinz (1877-1941)
  • Clifford Heinz (1883-1935)
  • Irene Heinz Givens

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

Personality and mind, like moustaches, belong to a certain age. They are a deformity in a child.... Leave his sensibilities, his emotions, his spirit, and his mind severely alone. There is the devil in mothers, that they must provoke personal ... response from their infants.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

Political life at Washington is like political life in a suburban vestry.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)
