Hedge End - Radio Station

Radio Station

The town has its own non-profit radio station — Skyline on 102.5FM — which exists to promote and support community organisations and events. Broadcasts reach people in Hedge End, nearby Botley, West End and beyond. Founded by David Gates, Skyline was initially funded by grants and now relies on advertising from local businesses. This aims to cover the necessary running costs, i.e. radio licensing, utility bills and performing-rights fees for the music played on air. Skyline produces a wide variety of programmes — rock, country, pop, local bands, easy listening — and regularly features interviews from local community groups from the arts, environment and altruistic societies. All of the people involved in the station are unpaid volunteers. As of 10 February 2007, Skyline streams live on the internet.

In 2008 following a number of unsuccessful takeover attempts, presenter Mike Green bought the station which continues to broadcast its original blend of music.

Famous quotes containing the words radio station, radio and/or station:

... the ... radio station played a Chopin polonaise. On all the following days news bulletins were prefaced by Chopin—preludes, etudes, waltzes, mazurkas. The war became for me a victory, known in advance, Chopin over Hitler.
    Margaret Anderson (1886–1973)

Now they can do the radio in so many languages that nobody any longer dreams of a single language, and there should not any longer be dreams of conquest because the globe is all one, anybody can hear everything and everybody can hear the same thing, so what is the use of conquering.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

With boys you always know where you stand. Right in the path of a hurricane. It’s all there. The fruit flies hovering over their waste can, the hamster trying to escape to cleaner air, the bedrooms decorated in Early Bus Station Restroom.
    Erma Bombeck (20th century)
