Head Impact Telemetry System - Problems

Problems

One of the drawbacks of the HITS is that it can not tell for certain if a player has sustained a concussion. It can only measure the impact and not the player’s reaction to the force of the blow. Since players react differently to different levels of impact the sensors sometimes give misleading information. Another problem of the Head Impact Telemetry System is the signal strength outdoors. Studies have shown that the environment can affect the signal strength resulting in longer download times and errors in transmission. Today there are only nine College Football teams using the system and the National Football League has not shown a great interest in implementing the technology for its players.

Famous quotes containing the word problems:

Currently, U.S. society has been encouraged by its political and subsidized mass-media intelligentsia to view U.S. life as a continual “morning in America” paradise, where the only social problems occur in the inner cities. Psychologists call this denial.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)

“What we know, is a point to what we do not know.” Open any recent journal of science, and weigh the problems suggested concerning Light, Heat, Electricity, Magnetism, Physiology, Geology, and judge whether the interest of natural science is likely to be soon exhausted.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

More than a decade after our fellow citizens began bedding down on the sidewalks, their problems continue to seem so intractable that we have begun to do psychologically what government has been incapable of doing programmatically. We bring the numbers down—not by solving the problem, but by deciding it’s their own damn fault.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
