Hazarajat - Health

Health

Leprosy has been reported in the central Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, including Hazarajat provinces such as Bamyan, Wardak, and Ghazni. The vast majority (80%) of the Afghan leprosy victims are Hazara. In 1999, Leprosy Control stated that they were the only NGO providing anti-leprosy aid in the Hazarajat, and had been doing so since 1984.

A 1989 report noted that common diseases in the Hazarajat included gastrointestinal infections, typhoid, whooping cough, measles, leprosy, tuberculosis, rheumatoid arthritis and malaria.

Famous quotes containing the word health:

To be stupid and selfish and to have good health are the three requirements for happiness, though if stupidity is lacking, the others are useless.
    Gustave Flaubert (1821–1880)

It is not stressful circumstances, as such, that do harm to children. Rather, it is the quality of their interpersonal relationships and their transactions with the wider social and material environment that lead to behavioral, emotional, and physical health problems. If stress matters, it is in terms of how it influences the relationships that are important to the child.
    Felton Earls (20th century)

We have to give ourselves—men in particular—permission to really be with and get to know our children. The premise is that taking care of kids can be a pain in the ass, and it is frustrating and agonizing, but also gratifying and enjoyable. When a little kid says, “I love you, Daddy,” or cries and you comfort her or him, life becomes a richer experience.
