Education and Economy

Rector Drew Junior School is the junior school of the village. Hawarden High School is a high school which dates back to 1606 and was attended not only by Michael Owen, but also Gary Speed, the former manager of the Wales national football team.

Queensferry consists predominantly of industrial, commercial and storage businesses by the River Dee and is situated to immediately northeast of the community - the village is residential. HSBC, moneysupermarket.com and Unilever have significant premises at St David's Park by the main A55 in Ewloe.

Hawarden Airport sometimes Hawarden (Chester) Airport, which with adjoining Hawarden Industrial Park/Chester Aerospace Park/Manor Park is in Broughton and Bretton community, is one of two public airfields in the north of Wales - for commercial flights see Liverpool John Lennon Airport - the second airfield being at Caernarfon. Its primary function is to serve the Raytheon and BAE Systems aerospace factories in the adjacent village of Broughton (on the English border), where Airbus manufacture the wings of the Airbus airliners before they are flown in a Beluga cargo aircraft to Bremen, Germany for equipping (A330/340 & A300 Wings) or Hamburg, Germany and Toulouse, France (A320 family wings) for final assembly of the complete aircraft. The wings of the Airbus A380 are too large to be flown out and are instead transported by barge down the River Dee, to the port of Mostyn.

Famous quotes containing the words education and/or economy:

If education is always to be conceived along the same antiquated lines of a mere transmission of knowledge, there is little to be hoped from it in the bettering of man’s future. For what is the use of transmitting knowledge if the individual’s total development lags behind?
    Maria Montessori (1870–1952)

Unaware of the absurdity of it, we introduce our own petty household rules into the economy of the universe for which the life of generations, peoples, of entire planets, has no importance in relation to the general development.
    Alexander Herzen (1812–1870)
