Location

Geographically Haugaland is a peninsula between Bømlafjord in Hordaland and Boknafjord in Rogaland. It is bordered to the east of the isthmus between Ølensfjord and Sandeidfjord. It is limited by the Hardangerfjord to the north, Boknafjord to the south and the district of Hardanger inland.

Administratively Haugaland spans the portions of the counties of Hordaland and Rogaland. Included in Haugaland are the municipalities of Etne and Sveio in Hordaland and the municipalities of Haugesund, Karmøy, Utsira, Tysvær, Bokn, Sauda, and Vindafjord in Rogaland. Haugaland includes the city of Haugesund together with the towns of Kopervik, Skudeneshavn and Åkrehamn along with the surrounding areas. As of 2006, there were 96,423 inhabitants within Haugaland.
