Hathni Kund is a place in the Indian state of Haryana, built on a raised plinth overlooking the Yamuna. The river Yamuna flows into the plains of Haryana after crossing over the last lap of the Himalayan foothills at Paonta Sahib. The waters of the western Yamuna Canal are collected in the barrage at Tajewala, 5 km away from Hathni Kund.

Hathni Kund is close to Yamunanagar. The Yamunanagar Railway Station is the nearest railway station. Hathni Kund: A short drive from the town of Yamunanagar begins the Sal forest reserve of Kalesar. At Paonta Sahib the river Yamuna crosses over the last lap of the Himalayan foot hills. It flows into the plains of Haryana. And, the waters of the western Yamuna Canal are caught in the barrage at Tajewala. Each of these centers is within 5 km. The tourism center of Haryana Tourism at Hathni Kund forms a link between these attractions. Hathni Kund is a delightful location, Built on a raised plinth, the complex overlooks the flowing waters of the Yamuna. In the far distance, stand the foothills of the Himalayas slowly blending into the skyline.
Hathni Kund is not the usual quiet retreat it seems at a glance. The summers bring groups of adventurous river rafters. Launching off on an expedition from Paonta Sahib, the rafts bob on till Hathni Kund. The rapids in this stretch are of medium intensity. Perfect for amateurs. A number of expeditions have been run already. Adding a special appeal to rafting is the facility to camp out in the lawns of this complex. Rafting expedition, camping out at night and trekking in the Kalesar forest reserve are the major attractions .
Not only is the Kalesar forest a delight but so is the bird life. The tree pie, Drongo, Hornbills, Blue Peafowl, partridges will delight the ornithologist in you. Neelgai (Blue bull), Kakad or Barking deer, Monkeys, jackal and an occasional chital can also be spotted here. Kalesar covers about 5100 hectares and is the only Sal forest tract in Haryana. There are many flowering trees in the Kalesar forest, including Dhak, Kachnar and Amaltas.
The next halt can be made at an absolutely different location - the water-front of Tajewala. The barrage at this location has fascinated many an angler, The waters have the Mahaseer for all those who care for this very restful experience. A permit is necessary. Obtain it from the Officer in charge. Special adventure club camps can be tailored to preference.
