Hassan Khaled - Death

Death

On 16 May 1989, a 300 pound (136 kg) car bomb was detonated next to Khaled's car as he drove through Beirut. Khaled and 21 others were killed. Syrian intelligence is widely believed to be behind the assassination; Khaled had been a critic of Syrian intervention in Lebanon. As Khaled had been killed while returning from a meeting with anti-Syrian general Michel Aoun, his killing was believed to be a warning to all those who cooperated with Aoun.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

Immortal mortals, mortal immortals, one living the others’ death and dying the others’ life.
    Heraclitus (c. 535–475 B.C.)

Water, earth, air, fire, and the other parts of this structure of mine are no more instruments of your life than instruments of your death. Why do you fear your last day? It contributes no more to your death than each of the others. The last step does not cause the fatigue, but reveals it. All days travel toward death, the last one reaches it.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

When death comes too near, comedy and tragedy fall silent.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
