Harvest Mouse

Harvest mouse may refer to members of two groups of rodents:

  • Micromys from Eurasia, particularly the Eurasian harvest mouse (Micromys minutus)
  • Reithrodontomys from the Americas

Famous quotes containing the words harvest and/or mouse:

The bourgeois treasures nothing more highly than the self.... And so at the cost of intensity he achieves his own preservation and security. His harvest is a quiet mind which he prefers to being possessed by God, as he prefers comfort to pleasure, convenience to liberty, and a pleasant temperature to that deathly inner consuming fire.
    Hermann Hesse (1877–1962)

It is as when a migrating army of mice girdles a forest of pines. The chopper fells trees from the same motive that the mouse gnaws them,—to get his living. You tell me that he has a more interesting family than the mouse. That is as it happens.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
