Family
Haruko married Kazuo Hatoyama in an arranged marriage on November 16, 1881. Her behavior was different that that of a typical bride of that period because she held a job outside the home and engaged in translating legal documents.
Kazuo Hatoyama was speaker of the House of Representatives of the Diet of Japan from 1896 to 1897 during the Meiji era. Kazuo later served as the president of Waseda University.
Haruko died at home on July 12, 1938 of arteriosclerosis.
