Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:

One knows so well the popular idea of health. The English country gentleman galloping after a fox—the unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

Once the lesbian has been defined as ghostly—the better to drain her of any sensual or moral authority—she can then be exorcised.
Terry Castle, U.S. lesbian author. The Apparitional Lesbian, ch. 1 (1993)
