Harrow College - One Harrow

One Harrow

Until the credit crunch of 2008, Harrow College was planning to merge the two existing campuses at Harrow-on-the-Hill and Harrow Weald onto one site next to the current Harrow-on-the-Hill campus. The project which was called One Harrow, was one of the very few ridiculous ideas which ultimately did not happen, thus saving millions of pounds. However, the credit crunch did provide the current principal with the ideal excuse to embark on a draconian series of increasingly surreal "restructures" all of which involved making key managers and lecturers "redundant", thus leaving the 2,000 plus students with less than 3 English lecturers. The new building was meant to provide exemplary learning facilities for the London Borough of Harrow and North West London. The Learning Skills Council was to provide a record £80 million for the project, One Harrow, however, in March 2008 some months before the credit crunch, the LSC was replaced by the equally delusional Skills Funding Agency, whose primary goal is to ensure that employed teachers are replaced by agency staff despite evidence that this does not help students to gain qualifications.

The college used to play a key role in serving the community of Harrow, and so it is particularly unfortunate that within the next five years it is likely to merge with, and be relocated to, the nearby Stanmore College.

Famous quotes containing the word harrow:

“Who cares what they say? It’s a nice way to live,
Just taking what Nature is willing to give,
Not forcing her hand with harrow and plow.”
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
